Upper Merri Landcare Facilitator 2021-24

Join the vibrant and committed team at community not-for-profit Merri Creek Management Committee (MCMC) in a newly created three-year position as the Upper Merri Landcare Facilitator.

The Upper Merri Landcare Facilitator will support Wallan Environment Group, Friends of Merri Creek and other groups volunteer groups within the parts of the Upper Merri catchment in the City of Hume and the Shire of Mitchell to build capacity and resilience, and to enable groups to undertake works that protect, enhance and restore the land and natural environment.

The role will have a strong focus on building group and network capacity, rather than dependency, to enable groups and networks to become sustainable.

Community engagement experience, natural resource management knowledge, communication skills, stakeholder management, planning and computer literacy are required, along with a collaborative, engaging approach. Previous experience working with Landcare, Friends of groups, or other environmental volunteer groups, is desirable.

The position is part time (8hrs/week) and is paid consistent with MCMC's Enterprise Agreement at band 6, which starts at $73250 fte.  Use of your own car is required, which will be refunded per km.

MCMC has received $74334 funding from the Victorian Government’s 2021-24 Victorian Landcare Facilitator Program to employ a Landcare facilitator from 1 July 2021 until 30 June 2024.

The Victorian Government has provided 2021-24 Victorian Landcare Facilitator Program funding to Landcare groups and networks to employ or engage 80 Landcare facilitators to support Landcare and environmental volunteer groups and networks to build capacity and resilience, and to support groups and networks who undertake works for the protection, enhancement and restoration of our land and natural environment.

MCMC’s temporary Ecological Restoration Team Members are usually employed at band 2A level, either as part-time casuals, or as full-time temporary appointments for a specified number of months. The starting salary is $27.78 per hour (plus 9.5% superannuation). Casuals receive a 25% loading in lieu of the paid public holidays, annual leave and sick leave entitlements that full-time temporary employees receive.

We work a 35 hour week at MCMC, not the usual 38 hr week. This is worked over a 9 day, 70 hour fortnight.

All our permanent Ecological Restoration Team members began through temporary employment at MCMC. There is strong potential for employees in temporary positions to eventually gain permanent full time employment.
