Moreland PS Creekside Teacher PD 7.3.19The whole Moreland Primary School community kicked off 2019 with a radical education project called Future Makers and the Merri Merri Creek. The project, coordinated by school parent Sarita Gálvez, began with a professional development day for all school staff, including two walks to Merri Creek led by Merri Creek Management Committee (MCMC), and a guided talk at Bunjilaka, Melbourne Museum.

MorelandPS MerriCk outdoor classroom 2019All student groups and accompanying adults are intrepid and walk half an hour each way to get to Merri Creek. Students are involved in five-week blocks with a series of specialist educators including MCMC. East Coburg Neighbourhood House is a valued partner providing learning spaces that complement the creekside ‘classroom’ sessions.

This experimental hands-on program gained funding through the State Government's Pick My Project community grants initiative of 2018. It aims to connect the school with the Merri Creek through a series of Indigenous knowledge, art and science sustainability residencies. MCMC assisted in the development of the project concept and is on the project delivery team.

Regular updates on the project can be seen on the Merri Merri curriculum site.  For more information on MCMC's involvement contact: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
