Merri Creek Management Committee

MCMC hit the news in The Sunday Age, highlighting the risks that the latest industrial fire in Campbellfield poses to waterways and the threat to undoing the great ecologocal resoration work that has occurred over decades along the creek.  We said that if the fire had been a mere few blocks east, the fire runoff would have gone straight ot Merri Creek. Fortunately most of teh contaminated runoff has been held back in the nearby National Pacific wetland near the head of Merlynston Creek. There are many areas where stormwater runoff from industrial areas flows direct to waterways of the Merri Creek with no intervening opportunities to hold back the runoff in wetlands/retarding basins.

Wurundjeri panel - featureSee a web version of these fabulous panels which celebrate the outstanding community achievement since 1975 in transforming Merri Creek from a weed-smothered drain to a much-loved waterway running through a bushland corridor: fronts of panels (17MB file); backs of panels (9MB file).

The two metre size panels were originally displayed at libraries and other public places throughout the Merri Creek catchment over 16 months until late 2016, in celebration of MCMC's 25th Anniversary.
