Merri Creek Management Committee

Uncle Dave Wandin at Bababi DjinanangMCMC is delighted to have received four grants to continue our ongoing ecological restoration and community engagement activities on the Merri. These grants include a partnership project with the Wurundjeri Tribe Council at the Merri-Yarra confluence, a project to renovate mature revegetation in East Brunswick by reducing overland erosion and introducing more appropriate understorey species, a project to improve the quality and resilience of revegetated Streambank Shrubland in Northcote, and a project that will extend and build the resilience of recent restoration work in Fawkner.

Confluence: Investing in the cultural and environmental values of Merri-Yarra confluence with community - City of Yarra Investing in Community Grant - $91,204 over three years. This project will be delivered in partnership with the Wurundjeri Tribe Council to celebrate with community the Wurundjeri significance of the Merri-Yarra confluence. Intrepretive walks and mini-festivals will be offered and conservation works undertaken around recently scarred trees.

Old Plantings, New Niches - strengthening Merri Creek's restoration in Brunswick - Melbourne Water Corridors of Green Grant - $19,997 over 18 months. Based at the Merri Parklands near Clara and Albion Streets in Brunswick East, this project will renovate mature revegetation by reducing overland erosion, introducing understorey species more appropriate for mature revegetation and create niches for the ongoing natural regeneration of vegetation.

Merri Park 'Two' - Two states, two transitions  - Melbourne Water Corridors of Green Grant - $19,583 over 18 months. Based in Merri Park Northcote, south of Arthurton Rd, this project aims to improve the quality and resilience of revegetated Streambank Shrubland through erosion control, planting, and weed control. It will also raise awareness of Merri restoration and urban pressures among community, including Northcote High School teachers and students. Host planting events will be held.

Fawkner Creekbanks, Flats and Cliffs - diverse habitat, diverse community - Melbourne Water Community grant - $19,725 over 18 months. Based in the Merri Parklands near  Imaroo St, Lorne St and Lynch Rd Fawkner, this project will will help secure and build resilience of recent projects. A community planting day will build on community connection around this formerly neglected stretch of Merri Creek.
