Personal protective equipment

The Myer FoundationMCMC provides the following personal protective equipment to its outdoor staff, and where appropriate to other staff:

  • Long sleeved shirt and long cotton pants (for skin protection from sun, vegetation and biting animals including spiders, snakes and insects)
  • Polarfleece jackets (for protection from cold)
  • Steel-capped leather boots
  • Broad-brimmed hat (sun protection)
  • Sunglasses (UV protection)
  • Clear safety glasses (eye protection when working near boxthorn or other prickly plants, or with mulch on windy days etc)
  • Raincoat and rain pants (protection from rain)
  • leather gloves (hand protection including from vibration from brushcutters, but not chemicals)
  • Steel-capped gumboots
  • nitrile gloves (hand protection from herbicides)
  • half face mask with combined vapour and particle cartridge
  • Full face mask with combined vapour and particle cartridge (particularly for rig spraying)
  • Breathalon spray suit (whole body protection from herbicides)
  • Goggles

Personal protective equipment for herbicide use is cleaned after each day's use. Each team member has their own set of equipment assigned to them, which is stored in a lidded plastic box. Filter cartridges are stored in sealed plastic containers between use to preserve their effectiveness.
